CITIES

The main concern in every emergency is the protection of life. During emergency situations in cities, public officials must begin almost immediately after an event to implement evacuation plans and institute recovery procedures often times without full knowledge of the rapidly changing conditions and uncertainty of what is occurring that can change the situation. In order to respond to a catastrophic event, cities need to have systems and infrastructure in place to deter and detect acts of terror as well as a plan of action to handle emergency situations. IA provides the tools needed to help secure cities by providing security assessments, detection equipment and countermeasures.

Cities have various types of infrastructure needing security to avoid the type of loss of life or major financial destruction that could occur in a major city as a result of an act of terror or natural disaster damaging a building, public venue, bridge, tunnel, mass transit system or major freeway that is a main artery of a city. This type of collateral damage disrupts the operation of a city as well as hinders the commerce of the city.

Starting with a security assessment identifying critical infrastructure (both physical and cyber) IA defines the type of attack that might be deployed against the target as well as a probability of such an attack. The security assessment is then used to develop appropriate countermeasures to deter and reduce the risk of such probable attacks.

Once identified the critical infrastructure must be monitored through the use of surveillance and sensor systems to detect suspicious activity and the presence of nuclear, radiological, explosive or other type of hazardous materials. To maximize the effectiveness of these systems requires the sensors set far enough away for the bridge, building or other target to be able to identify and communicate to intercept suspects before they can obtain access to the target sites.

Creating rings of security around high profile targets allows IA's iaMedium to operate as a layered monitoring and detection system to track suspicious activities linking to the IVSS allowing for the interception of suspicious vehicles or people prior to reaching areas with high vulnerability.
